Participants opt in in person by tapping a Checkpoint sticker or object. The tap opens a pre-addressed, prefilled text to the project number. No one is enrolled automatically. The participant must choose to press Send to begin.

How opt-in works

The participant sends the first message.

  1. A participant encounters a Checkpoint sticker, card, or object in person.
  2. The attached card or signage identifies the program as Checkpoint by Secret Soup Company and displays the SMS disclosure before any text is sent.
  3. The participant taps the sticker or object, which opens a prefilled SMS in the participant's own messaging app.
  4. The participant chooses whether to press Send.
  5. No messages are sent to the participant unless the participant sends that first text.
